I'm based in Kent, UK.
I set up Crohn's Zone with Shane after being diagnosed with Crohn's disease in November 2001, of a subtype called 'Crohn's colitis', basically Crohn's that is restricted to the large bowel and behaves in a similar way to ulcerative colitis.
After a hefty round of treatments including steroids, immunosuppressants, elemental diets and TPN, I had surgery in April 2002 to remove my large bowel and form an ileostomy. The ileostomy was made permanent in October 2006 when I underwent a completion proctectomy.
Since 2002, I have lived well & symptom-free with my ileostomy and haven't required medication. However the Crohn's did affect my gallbladder indirectly and I had to have that out in June 2009.
